2022
Following a move to the Catawba community in the fall of the previous year, 2022 was defined by immersion. Having grown up outside of our Tribal lands, this period marked the first opportunity to truly live and work within our culture. I was serving to protect the land through my professional work with the Tribal government, and I felt a deep desire to connect with that same land through the 4,000-year-old tradition of Catawba pottery.
This year was also one of shared reconnection; I spend these months navigating this new home alongside my sister, who had moved to the area shortly after I had arrived. Together, we began foundational classes at the Catawba Cultural Center in a post-pandemic world.
